Abnormal Heart Rhythms
Irregular heartbeat, also called dysrhythmia, is a common admitting diagnosis in the medical surgical setting.  Many patients are admitted and monitored until a definitive diagnosis and the cause of their dysrhythmia can be determined.  Patients respond differently to the changes in cardiac output often associated with irregular heart rhythms.  Some patients develop significant clinical manifestations, whereas others remain asymptomatic.  Treatment is based on the cause of the dysrhythmia, the patient's response to the dysrhythmia, and its potential to precipitate more serious cardiac dysrhythmia. This course will prepare you to effectively assess a patient with an irregular heartbeat and provide appropriate care. (55 minutes)

Chest Pain Examination and Assessment
Nonspecific chest pain, or atypical chest pain, is a common admitting diagnosis in the Medical-Surgical Unit of acute healthcare settings. Chest pain can originate from a variety of different sources. The diagnosis of nonspecific chest pain describes a patient who has chest pain with no more than one of the three characteristics of typical angina: substernal chest pain, chest pain exertional in nature, or chest pain relieved promptly by sublingual nitroglycerine. This course helps a nurse to determine if the chest pain a patient experiences is likely of cardiac or some other origin. (53 minutes)

ECG Lead Systems, Complications, and Nursing Interventions
In this course, you will discuss the ECG lead system, including 12 and 18 lead systems. You will explore heart complications such as ischemia, injury, and infarct, and the role the ECG interpretation plays in their detection. This course will also discuss the importance of lead placement on accurate ECG interpretation. You will compare right and left bundle branch blocks, and explore how determining the role of axis deviation can help you to differentiate between ventricular ectopy, aberrant cardiac rhythms, and the severity of a bundle branch block. Finally, you will discuss cardiopulmonary arrest, near death experiences, and the nursing interventions for patients who have these experiences. (67 minutes)

Electrocardiogram Assessment
Electrocardiography is a tool that provides a wealth of information on your patient's condition. Electrocardiograph (ECG) monitoring is a standard procedure in critical care units across the country and is the most frequently used diagnostic tool. This course will help you become proficient at interpreting ECG strips as you explore ECG waveforms, the heart's conduction system, and various dysrhythmias, possible etiologies, and appropriate nursing/medical interventions. Measurement, Determinants, and Manipulation of Cardiac Output
In this course, you will learn about measurement, determinants, and manipulation of cardiac output (CO). CO is a measure of how efficiently the heart is working. Measuring changes in CO helps to determine the effects of disease and the effectiveness of drug interventions. CO assessment variables that you will cover in this course include preload, afterload, and contractility. The relationship between a left ventricular function curve and CO will help you further care for patients with CV problems. (61 minutes)

Physical Exam: Inspection, Palpation, and Auscultation for CV Assessment
In this course, you will learn how to conduct a physical exam to determine cardiovascular (CV) status. You will learn to recognize the inspection points used in physical assessment of patients with CV concerns. You will learn to use key veins, pulse, and contour to assess your patient. This course will also help you recognize complications associated with CV-related conditions. (57 minutes)

Sources of Nonspecific Chest Pain
Nonspecific chest pain can arise from the cardiac system or other systems. If the source of the problem is not the cardiac system, it is most commonly the respiratory or pulmonary system. Chest pain can also be related to gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and neurological disorders as well as to anxiety states. This course examines the potential sources of cardiac chest pain and pulmonary chest pain. It also differentiates between additional systemic sources of chest pain. (50 minutes)

Cardiovascular Technologies
Cardiovascular technologies continue to evolve. These mechanical devices assist the heart's natural electrical system and help restore its normal rate and rhythm. This course will cover temporary cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and ventriculator assist devices. (59 minutes)

Heart Disease and Treatment Options
In this course, you will cover valvular heart disease, which involves the structural and/or functional abnormalities of heart valves. You will explore cardiac surgery, surgical procedures, and an outline for nursing assessment and management in the postoperative period. (56 minutes)
