Proper Body Mechanics and Positioning the Patient
Patients often require assistance when moving between beds and chairs or stretchers. Some patients require total care and may need help lifting or positioning themselves for treatment. They may also need to be lifted in and out of bed. Unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) must understand how to use proper body positions and movements to prevent injury to themselves when moving or lifting patients. This course describes proper body mechanics and ways to prevent back injuries when working with patients. It also describes common bed positions for patients with various health problems and how to prevent complications related to bed position. (35 minutes)
