Comfort Measures and Pain Management

Pain remains one of the greatest fears of patients facing chronic or catastrophic disease. Oncology nurses have a unique and essential role in pain management; the nurse who has the knowledge to effectively assess and manage pain can advocate for effective relief of suffering and help restore quality to patients' lives. The purpose of this course is to describe the problem of pain and pain management in cancer patients. The course also explains methods of assessing cancer pain and offers guidelines for pharmacologic management of cancer pain. (80 minutes)

Electrolyte Imbalances

This course provides an overview of electrolyte imbalances that may severely affect a patient's quality and/or length of life as a result of cancer or cancer treatments. These imbalances are called paraneoplastic syndromes and include hypercalcemia, syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (SIADH) secretion, septic shock, and disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC).
